Origin Climate is a mission-driven business and Certified B Corporation® that helps implement renewable energy and emission reduction projects to fight climate change.

Our Mission

Origin Climate fights climate change by bringing new renewable energy and greenhouse gas emission reduction projects to fruition.  We transform our clients' organizational goals into operational on-the-ground projects which bring new renewable energy onto the grid, bring new renewable natural gas into the pipeline, or reduce pre-existing greenhouse gas emissions using technology and process change.

Our Work

Origin Climate works with Fortune 500 companies and other organizations to identify, assess, finance, and implement projects across a broad range of technologies such as anaerobic digesters, biomass-to-energy, solar, wind, and hydropower.  We have two primary practice areas:

  • Dedicated renewable energy supply.  Origin Climate helps companies develop and implement renewable energy strategies in support of their emission reduction goals. We specialize in dedicated offsite renewable energy solutions such as PPAs, virtual PPAs, PURPA projects, biogas supply agreements, and co-development partnerships with utilities.
  • Project funding via environmental credits.  Origin Climate registers and sells environmental credits - such as carbon credits, renewable energy credits (RECs), and low-carbon fuel credits - to help companies fund projects in a collaborative manner. These credits are standardized, independently-verified instruments that channel funding to projects in direct proportion to the quantified environmental benefit of those projects. Credits are issued and tracked on public registries.

What We've Achieved

  • Since 2004, Origin has registered and sold over 5,000,000 metric tons of carbon credits from more than dozens of U.S. projects

  • Origin's work on project equity investments has added more than 800 MW of new solar, wind, hydro and biogas-powered fuel cell energy to the U.S., China, and other markets
  • Origin helped identify, assess, and negotiate more than 4,000,000 mmBTUs (or decatherms) of biogas supply agreements

  • Origin has helped structure and negotiate more than 30 billion kWh of renewable PPAs in the U.S., Asia, and Europe
  • Origin helped design and implement one the first utility "green tariffs" to allow electricity users to buy 100% project-specific renewable energy throughout their utility
